Yes, I know it’s childish. She’s a copycat. I considered her my mortal enemy since the first day I saw her art.
Last year she became obsessed with a fantasy realism artist. She completely abandoned anime and anime artists. Her art looked like it was completely made by someone else in a matter of days. Seeing her art being better than mine (although stiff) made me lose my mind.
I then started making studies so I could be the best one again (yes, super childish, I have no shame), but it wasn’t working.
A couple of months ago I tried something different: to know my enemy. I went through all of her favourites, saved the ones I liked in an inspiration folder. Then almost everyday I would draw at least one of those drawings. Yes, copying, just like she did. Except that I don’t share my copied stuff.
My art has ridiculously improved, and suddenly I’m completely losing my interest in anime. I’m trying different techniques, landscapes, mythological creatures, I’m finally getting out of my comfort zone and finding my place in art.
I turned my nonsense obssessive hate into an almost healthy competition.
I figured I could share a bit of my wisdom: no one hates a bad artist purely for being bad. You might think their art is gross or too shiny-desu, but deep inside you might be jealous of something. It can be their popularity, how attractive their work looks even though they have absolutely no skill, their ocs etc.
Thinking someone’s art is bad won’t make you want to come to this blog and share their bad art with almost 13k people. There IS a bigger problem and you have to figure out what. So instead of posting about them and losing sleep because of them, why don’t you use that hate for something more useful.
I posted about this artist once and believe me, it changed absolutely nothing. It only made it worse when I realised I was seeing things that other people thought wasn’t there (I wasn’t paranoid, the resemblance was obvious and I still can’t believe you guys didn’t see it, you can hardly tell the difference between the original artist and the copycat, but apparently they are “just general fantasy artists who draw pretty much the same characters with the same color palette and the same poses and backgrounds, theres no resemblance at all”). So why don’t you stop writing hate confessions and do something good about it?
Art by Artgerm. Sorry about making this confession longer than I intended.
